1 History and Heritage

Focuses on key historical landmarks that provide context to Rwanda's past and its path to reconciliation. The sites are the Kigali Genocide Memorial, the Belgian Peacekeepers Memorial, and the Rwanda Art Museum.

Morning: Kigali Genocide Memorial

Activity: You will start the journey by visiting Kigali Genocide Memorial, a moving and essential experience. Explore the powerful exhibitions that document the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

Late Morning: Belgian Peacekeepers Memorial

 

Activity: From Kigali Genocide Memorial, take a short drive to Belgian peace keeper’s memorial, this site honors the ten Belgian UN peacekeepers that were killed at the outset of the genocide. The building retains bullet holes from the attack, preserved look at the events.

Lunch: Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. The area around the Belgian Peacekeepers Memorial is close to central Kigali, offering several dining options.

Afternoon: Visiting Rwanda Art Museum

 Activity: Located at the former Presidential Palace in Kanombe, this museum showcases contemporary Rwandan art and also the pieces of the former president's plane, which is linked to the start of the genocide. It offers a different perspective on the nation's history and creative expression.

2 Culture and Creativity

For the second day, you are going to shifts focus to Kigali's vibrant art scene and local community life, concluding with an adventurous outdoor activity.

Morning: Inema Art Gallery

Activity: Start the day at the Inema Arts Centre, one of Kigali's most art galleries. It features a wide range of works by local artists in residence and often hosts workshops and events, providing insight into the modern Rwandan art movement.

Late Morning: Nyamirambo Women’s Center

 Activity: From Inema Art Gallery, Drive Heading to the Nyamirambo neighborhood, the oldest part of Kigali. The Nyamirambo Women's Center is a non-profit organization promoting women's empowerment through various initiatives, including walking tours, craft workshops, and traditional cooking classes. This offers local experience and a chance to support the community.

Lunch: Enjoy a local Rwandan meal in the Nyamirambo area, known for its vibrant atmosphere and local cuisine.

Afternoon: Fazenda Sengha

Activity: Then from Nyamirambo, take a short drive to conclude the trip at Fazenda Sengha on Mount Kigali. This recreational center offers outdoor activities such as horseback riding, zip lining, and archery, along with panoramic views of the city. It is a fun and relaxing way to end the tour.
