Overview

Embark on a relaxation trip to fascinating Lake Kivu. Lake Kivu is one of the fresh water lakes in Rwanda shared with its neighbor country, the Democratic Republic of Congo. The lake is eighth largest in Africa and the largest in Rwanda making it of great significance to the people of Rwanda and Visitors as well. The lake is home to more than 20 fish species including the blue-spotted tilapia,red tilapia,Nile tilapia etc. water birds like the common waxbill spotted, Speckled pigeons, Bronzed sunbirds and so many more.

Tour Plan

1 Depart to Lake Kivu (Rubavu District)

You will drive heading western province of Rwanda. On your way, you will have to pass at Rulindo district where you will stop and visit “Ikirenge cya Ruganzu” (Ruganzu’s footprint). It refers to a cultural and historical site in Rulindo District, Rwanda, associated with King Ruganzu II Ndoli. The site is known for its historical significance and is believed to be where Ruganzu II Ndoli left his footprints. The area also houses the Ikirenga Cultural Centre.

The arrival at lake kivu will be in the afternoon, where we shall immediately go to our booked hotel for lunch and storing our baggage and take short break while getting ready to visit Imbabazi orphanage.

2 Enjoying the activities at Lake Kivu

A Good morning every one! Here is the dayJJJ, hope you spend a loved night near the lake. Wake up and have your breakfast and relax a bit while getting ready for a short drive or choose even to walk to the lake, the driver guide will be with you satisfying each and every curiosity you get on the way.

After reaching the lake, there will be a lot of activities waiting for you. We shall do boat cruise, Swimming, and fishing (before lunch time), start from any of your choice.

The driver guide will guide you back to the hotel for lunch, or decide to use one of good restaurant on the beach and enjoy the roasted fresh fish and other good meals. This varies depending on your choice.

After having our lunch, we shall go for a 1-3 hours boat ride to Napoleon Island/Bat Island where the island is known for its colony of fruit bats and offers boat tours, bird watching and hiking. The island is named for its shape, which resemble napoleon Bonaparte’s hat.

(You can choose to use road or water transport as the price for this varies).

3 Transfer back to Kigali

Wake up in the morning and have your breakfast

take a short break while enjoying the lake view, and get prepared for a 5- 6hours drive back to the hotel in Kigali. End of safari!
